A step-by-step guide to renaming eligible accounts in the Group Reporting Template (GRT) directly from the GRT Account Setup screen.
1) Navigate to GRT Account Setup
From Group Financial Reporting, go to Working Papers.
Locate the relevant consolidation or Group.
Click Setup Group Accounts.
The Setup Group Reporting Template Accounts modal opens.
Review the account hierarchy, including Assets, Liabilities, Equity, Revenue, and Expenses, and their sub-accounts.
The editable account-name feature is available within this account hierarchy.
2) Review Account Details
Each account row displays:
Account Code - the unique code identifying the account.
Account Name - the descriptive name of the account.
The Account Name can be edited directly from the account hierarchy without opening a separate form or dialog.
3) Rename an Account
Find the account you want to rename.
Click directly on the Account Name.
The account name changes to an editable text field containing the current name.
Edit the account name as required.
Press Enter or click outside the text field to confirm the edit.
The updated account name is displayed in the hierarchy.
Repeat the process for any other accounts you want to rename.
Click Save & Map Account to permanently save the changes.
When editing an existing template, the button is displayed as Update & Map Account.
Pressing Enter or clicking outside the field only confirms the edit on screen. It does not save the change to the system. You must click Save & Map Account or Update & Map Account to permanently store the updated account name.
4) Review Which Accounts Can Be Renamed
Not every row in the GRT hierarchy can be renamed.
Top-level parent or group headings, such as Assets and Liabilities, cannot be renamed using the inline editor.
Line-item accounts, including sub-accounts and sub-sub-accounts, can be renamed.
If you click a non-editable heading, the account name does not enter edit mode.
5) Follow Account Name Validation Rules
GATHER.nexus validates the account name before the edit can be confirmed.
If the Account Name is blank, an error states that an account name has not been entered. The field remains open until a name is entered.
If the Account Name contains only spaces, an error states that the input contains only white spaces. The field remains open until corrected.
If the Account Name contains valid text, the edit is accepted and the field returns to display mode.
When saving the template:
A row still in edit mode must be completed before the changes can be saved.
Duplicate Account Codes are not allowed. The save is blocked and conflicting rows are highlighted.
At least one account must exist before the template can be saved.
Duplicate Account Names are not specifically blocked, although keeping account names distinct is recommended for clarity.
6) Edit One Account at a Time
Only one Account Name or Account Code can be in edit mode at a time across the hierarchy.
Complete the current edit before starting an edit on another row. This prevents multiple unfinished changes from being left open when the template is saved.
7) Edit the Account Code
The Account Code supports the same inline editing behaviour as the Account Name.
Click the Account Code.
Edit the code as required.
Press Enter or click outside the field to confirm the change.
Save the changes using Save & Map Account or Update & Map Account.
Account code changes are also subject to the one-edit-at-a-time rule and duplicate-code validation when the template is saved.
8) Take Care When Renaming System-Recognised Accounts
Some account names are recognised by GATHER.nexus for automated foreign-exchange handling during consolidation.
These include:
Current Year Earnings
Retained Earnings
FX difference accounts, such as FX Differences in Reserves and FX Differences P&L
The platform identifies these accounts using their exact names.
Renaming a system-recognised account can therefore remove its automatic FX linkage. Avoid renaming these accounts unless you understand the impact on the related FX calculations. If you are unsure whether an account is system-recognised, check with your finance or reporting administrator before renaming it.
